He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy C. Byars and Jeannette George of Gaffney, SC.; and his wife Patti Gaines Byars. He is survived by: his son Derek Byars of Mountain Rest, SC; his stepson David Simmons (Bridgette) of Greenville, SC; and his brother Larry Byars (Claire) of Willow Spring, NC. He is also survived by two grandchildren; and two nieces.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the National MPS Society, whose mission is to serve those affected by mucopolysaccharidosis (a rare genetic disorder).
