Bessie Mae Smith Matheson Obituary
With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Bessie Mae Smith Matheson of Mountain Rest, South Carolina, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on April 9, 2025 at the age of 106. She was predeceased by: her husband Horace Buford Matheson; her parents, Walter Duboy and Viola Adams Smith; her siblings, Clem Smith, Clyde Smith, Jim Smith, Raymond Smith, Vossie Beck, Christine Smith, Eva Smith, Annie Smith and Cleo Patricia Smith McClung; and her great grandchild Cameron Brock.
She is survived by: her sons, Billy Matheson (Susan), Larry Matheson (Mozell), Doyle Matheson and Richard Matheson (Rena); and her brothers, Jesse Smith and Lonnie Smith. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Friday, April 11th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Sandifer Funeral Home (512 E Main St, Westminster, SC 29693). A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 12th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Unity Baptist Church (774 Unity Church Rd, Westminster, SC 29693).
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bessie's memory can be made to a Charity of Ones Choice.
