He is survived by: his wife Barbara Hughes Bates; his son Dennis Radford "Raddy" Bates Jr. (Paige); his grandchildren, Katherine Batkins (Daniel), Jessica Ravan (Shane), Laura Bates, Will Carter (Katie), Anne Garrett Carter and Brittan C. Gruber; and his great grandchildren, Merritt, Henry, Owen, Caroline and Mills.
