He is survived by: his wife Annabell Chavis; his children, Michael Chavis (Tonya M.) and Brenda J. Stembridge (James H. Jr.); and his siblings, Lucinda Simmons, James Chavis, Sr., Betty Jones, Doris Reid, Willie Gene Chavis, Edward Chavis and Jimmy Chavis, Sr.. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
