He was predeceased by: his parents, William Meritt Allen Jr. and Rebecca Lipscomb Allen; and his brother George Lipscomb Allen. He is survived by: his wife Sheila Lane Allen; his children, Brad Gerrald (Brigitte) of Cassatt, SC and Laney Allen Hodges (Gavin) of Lugoff, SC.; his grandchildren, Hunter, Jacob, Easton, Will and Thomas; and his sisters, Rebecca Ann Allen Garvin, Lutie Allen Weatherly, Susan Allen Barrineau (Tommy) and Ethel Allen Nobles.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Reedy Creek Playground Fund, C/O Reedy Creek Baptist Church 2508 S Hwy 501, Marion SC 29571.

“I grew up across the street from the Allen family and remember when Merritt was born! In 1984 my dad had a stroke that made him unable to reach the phone. Merritt spotted the papers that accumulated outside and somehow got into the house to call the ambulance for my dad, giving us nine more years with him. Whenever I think of Merritt, I think of him with thanks for saving my dad. Prayers, love, and hugs to all of his family but especially to the sisters I grew up with. Monte Lupo Prater”
