We are sad to announce that on December 16, 2020, at the age of 78, Tommie Compton of Manning, South Carolina, born in Bennettsville, South Carolina passed away. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Tommie Compton to pay them a last tribute.
She was predeceased by: her parents, James Thomas Heyward and Ruth Haithcock Heyward Griggs; her stepfather Buck Griggs; and her brother Bobby Heyward. She is survived by: her husband Charles Stafford "Charlie" Compton; her children, Billy Powell, Jr. of Chiefland, FL, Jeff Powell (Aylin) of Hanahan and Stephanie Dempsey (Pat) of Dorchester; and her siblings, Carolyn Bethea, Kay Franks, Ronald Heyward, Donald Heyward, Butch Griggs, Lee Griggs, Wanda Bowen, Keith Griggs, Deana Beasley, Pam Mathis and Glenn Griggs. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to the following: Brutons Fork Baptist Church, 1020 Bruton's Fork Church Road, Bennettsville, SC 29512; Samaritans Purse Ministry, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607; The Salvation Army; a local food bank; or a charity of one's choice.
