He was predeceased by: his parents, Matthew Peter Schmit and Irene Theisen Schmit; his son-in-law Walt Sandel; and his siblings, Clem, Carroll Schmit and Rosemary Schmit.
He is survived by: his daughters, Jacquie Corbett (Perry) of Manning, Chris Sandel of Sumter and Vicki Elliott (Greg) of Sumter; and his grandchildren, Megan Gillespie (Shawn), Lainey Russell (William), Jacob Corbett (Whitley), Joshua Stuckey (Frances), Matthew Keyes and Hailey Keyes. He is also survived by four great grandchildren.
