It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of John Avery Mazyck Jr. of Lyman, South Carolina, who passed away on May 21, 2023, at the age of 79, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, John A. Mazyck, and Susie Rentz Mazyck, Sr. of Charleston; his siblings, Catherine Mazyck Fields and Robert Mazyck; and his son-in-law Robert Gerig.

He is survived by: his wife Judy Franklin Mazyck; and his children, Karen Diane Mazyck Gerig of Utah, Joseph Mazyck (Shannon) of Arizona, Jason Mazyck (Dana) of Simpsonville, SC, Amanda Mazyck Charping (John) of Greenville, SC and Courtney Mazyck of Simpsonville, SC. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and sister.

“John, thanks for the memories. In our youth, you were the older brother I never had, teaching me to skate, box and other useless thinks boys thought were great. I always looked forward to the sleep overs. Circumstances and distance interfered so we drifted apart as teenagers, but the family cherished the times you would drive, five or six hours round trip to Charleston, just to reminisce and catch up even for a few hours. You were special and will not be forgotten. Bill”
