He was predeceased by: his parents, William Himbrick Stokes, II and Mabel Horton Stokes; and his son William H. "Brick" Stokes IV. He is survived by: his wife Kathy Taylor Stokes; his daughters, Elizabeth Korn (Lee) and Kimberly Holloman; his grandchildren, Anna Catoe (Matthew), Ryan Korn, Malcolm Holloman, Deasmond Holloman, Nicholas Holloman and Justice Holloman; and his siblings, Audrey Dixon and Starling Stokes. He is also survived by 4 step-children; 7 step-grandchildren; and 16 great-great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oliver Gospel Mission.
