He was predeceased by: his parents, Nikolaus Schmidt and Rosalia Leinweber Schmidt; his siblings, Klaus Schmidt and Magdelena Schmidt; and his grandson Andrew "Andy" Schmidt.
He is survived by: his wife Carol S. Schmidt; his children, Joseph "Jay" Schmidt Jr. (Lisa), Roger Schmidt (Michelle) and Shelley Foley (Anthony); his brother Fred Schmidt (Helen); and his grandchildren, Erica Schmidt, Alissa Foley, Patrick Foley, Shaun Korch and Eric Korch. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; as well as his faithful pet.
