He was predeceased by: his parents, Otis Prater and Katie Bailey Prater; and his siblings, Dillard Prater, Curtis Prater, Norma Boone and Gloria Jean Prater.
He is survived by: his wife Dolly Prater; his son Scott; his daughter-in-law Jean Prater; his daughter Traci; his son-in-law Andy Hersey; his grandchildren, Amanda Prater (Jesse Howe), Zachary Prater (Emily), John "Jack" Hersey and William Hersey; his great grandchildren, Hayden Prater, Audrey Howe and Andrew Prater; and his siblings, Otis Prater, Jr., John Prater, Haskell Prater, Minnie Conley and Augusta Prater.
