He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Philip and Irma James Dews. He is survived by: his wife Sandra Lewis Dews; his brother Harry Philip Dews, Jr.; and his sister-in-law Patricia Dews (Lleyton Spivey).

Prior to the Covid Pandemic, he held a benefit at North Myrtle Beach High School in support of them.
