He was loved and cherished by many people including: his son John Howard Hartwell, Jr.; his parents, Ira Hartwell and Dorothy Hartwell; his brothers, Ira and Edward Hartwell; his wife Jean C. Hartwell; his son Joel H. Hartwell (Susan); and his grandsons, Harrison and Andrew Hartwell.
