He was predeceased by: his parents, Grady Lanier Thompson and Bessie Mae Haywood Thompson; his children, Ricky Thompson and Marsha Moore; and his siblings, Grady Lanier Thompson Jr., Oscar Thompson, Percy Thompson and R. D. Thompson.

He is survived by: his children, Cindy Thompson of Lexington, SC, Dianna Molitor of Lexington, SC, Rachel Sterling of Lexington, SC and Timothy "Tim" Thompson (Lea) of Lexington, SC; his siblings, Billy Thompson (Hazel) of Scott, GA, Pauline Harbin of Nashville, TN, Louise Coleman of Scott, GA and Susie Dudley of Scott, GA; and his grandchildren, Glen Allen Moore, Nicholas Watts, Crystal Watts, Amanda Thompson, Brittany Durdle and Hunter Sterling. He is also survived by many great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
