He was predeceased by: his parents, Josephus Samuel and Hattie Vestus Nichols; and his sisters, Jonell Seago, Leila Hoover, Laverne Wright and Barbara Shealy.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Ann Hamblen Nichols; his children, Marti Burns, Charles Stanmore Nichols and Fran Nichols; his grandchildren, Rachel Burns, Charles Grant Carey, Summer BurnsLawson, Allison and Charles Dylan Nichols; and his great grandchildren, Charles Elijah Brock, Charlotte Elois Rowe, Autumn Caroline Lawson, Violet Ada Lawson, Lilah Daye and Jayce Benajmin Daye.
