He was predeceased by: his wife Betty Elaine Robinson McCarson; his parents, James McCarson and Rebecca Milam McCarson; his son John Earl McCarson; and his siblings, Frank McCarson, James McCarson and Jane Stone.

He is survived by: his children, Ronnie McCarson (Valerie) of Marietta, SC, Pamela Massel (Michael) of LaPlace, LA and Carl McCarson (Janet) of LaPlace, LA; his siblings, Bo McCarson, Randy McCarson, Frances LeRoy and Lidie Fulmer; and his granddaughters, Christina Elaine McCarson Riordan, Natalie Elizabeth McCarson Hunter, Natasha Lynn Martich and Victoria Elizabeth McCarson. He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren.
