He was predeceased by: his parents, Woodrow Scott and Flora Reedy Boles Payton; and his siblings, Wilton Henry "Rooster" Payton, Genelle Ethridge and Bonnie Provan.
He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Bakley; his son Jonathan Randall Payton; and his siblings, Donnie Payton (Sarah) of Iva and Jennie Dixon of Florida.
