It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Betty Cleveland Coats (Laurens, South Carolina), born in Elberton, Georgia, who passed away on January 8, 2022, at the age of 97, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Doc Cleveland and Elisabeth Cleveland; her husband James Julian "JJ" Coats; her son James "Jimmy" Eugene Coats; and her siblings, Tom, Wilbur Cleveland, Mary Smith and Frances Smith.
She is survived by: her daughter Elisabeth Coats Rhodes (Danny) of Laurens; her daughter-in-law Barbara Lowe Coats of Laurens; her sister Lovelace Cleveland Compton (George); her grandchildren, Mason Charles Motes, II, James Cale Coats, Sr., Kate Rhodes Treadway (Kenny), Jill Coats Adair (Erskine) and Caroline Coats Hunt (John); and her great grandchildren, Mason Charles Motes, III, James Cale Coats, Jr., Johnson Robert Motes, Kenly Elisabeth Treadway, Julia Isabel Motes, MariAustin Adair, Ella Catherine Adair, William Samuel Hunt, Kason Charles Treadway, Jackson Isaiah Adair, Anna Carter Hunt and Paris Ruth Adair.
The family requests those attending to wear masks and be respectful of CDC COVID guidelines.
