He was predeceased by: his parents, Thor Kenneth Swanson and Ora Jewel Waterman Swanson; his wife Cathy Jean Swanson; his daughter Jodi Swanson Cornelius (David Andrew Cornelius); and his brother Richard Swanson (Beverly).

He is survived by: his children, Christy Moore of Latta and Kenneth James Swanson (Lana) of Georgia. He is also survived by six grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
