He was predeceased by: his parents, Lavern Welch and Lois McLaughlin Welch; and his brothers, Gene Welch and Shann Roberts. He is survived by: his wife Renee W. Welch of Lancaster; his sons, Richie Gene Welch (Tiffany) of Indian Land, Randell "Fat" Welch (Heidi) of Lancaster and Aaron; his sister Vicky Welch of Lancaster; his grandchildren, Kensley Shyann Welch, Kayleigh Shay Welch, Aubrey Michelle Welch, Braylen Ryan Welch and Airyka Ann Welch; his niece Dena Medlin; and his nephew Grant Medlin.
