She was predeceased by: her father James L. Sowell; her sisters, Janice Sowell and Patricia S. Whitaker; and her brother-in-law Kenneth Whitaker. She is survived by: her sister Linda Morris (Blaine); and her nieces and nephews, Melissa Sherrin, Rachel Morris, James Whitaker (Renee), Jeremy Morris (Amber) and Daniel Morris (Erica).

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or St. Baldrick's Foundation (childhood cancer research).
