He was predeceased by: his parents, Clifton Lee Helms and Katheleen Morris Helms; his daughter Jerlene Helms; and his brother Heath Helms. He is survived by: his sons, Howard Helms, Jr. of Lancaster, SC, Jimmy Lee Helms (Sherry) of Heath Springs, SC and Larry Dale Helms of Charlotte, NC; his grandchildren, Jimmy (Felicia), Justin (Ariel), Ashley (Brody) and Joshua; his great grandchildren, Hunter, Derek and Annaleigh; and his sisters, Rachel H. Klouse of Belmont, NC and Delores H. Baucom (Tim) of Bessemer City, NC..
