He was predeceased by: his parent Roy Sinclair Steele; and his siblings, Archie Lee Steele, Earl Steele, Myrtle Howie and Christine Schwartz.
He is survived by: his parent Nora Myrtle Therrell Steele; his son Herman E. "Sonny" Steele, Jr.; his wife Donna of Clayton, NC; his grandchildren, Staci Simmons, Lisa Crenshaw, Tessa Cox, Merriday Mabry, Scott Steele and Brad Steele; and also, Alfred "Doc" Steele (Janice) of Lancaster and Roy Steele (Brenda) of Lake Wateree. He is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
