He was predeceased by: his parents, Wade W. Ellis and Margaret Ellis; and his brothers, Franklin Ellis, Donald Ellis and Ronald Thomas "Buck" Ellis.

He is survived by: his wife Kathy B. Ellis of Lancaster; his children, Timothy Ellis of Raleigh, NC, Robert Ellis of Gastonia, NC, Wayne Ellis of Myrtle Beach, SC, Thomas Ellis (Felicia) of Lancaster, Tammy Cope (Michael) of Fountain Inn, SC and Kathy Faulkenberry (Brooks) of Lancaster; and his sisters, Sue Pressley of Great Falls, Pam Spradley (Tony) of Rock Hill, Geraldine McCarley of Chester, Gloria McCrary of Lancaster and Isabell Pittman (Jim) of Chester. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
