He was predeceased by: his parents, Eliby Hartley and Annie Bell Martin Hartley; his wife Helen B. Hartley; and his brothers, Marvin Hartley and Junior Hartley.

He is survived by: his children, Bo Hartley Jody (Jennifer) of Lancaster, Hartley Mackey (Alison) of Lancaster, Mike Mackey (Angie) of Lancaster, Melissa Rushing (Clark) of Monroe, NC and Sandy Gordon of Lancaster; his siblings, Big Man of Lancaster, Charles Hartley of Lancaster, Leon Hartley of Lancaster, Leroy Hartley of Greenville, SC and Becky Steen of Lancaster; and his siblings-in-law, John Black and Brenda Hartley. He is also survived by grandchildren; ten great grandchildren.
