He was predeceased by: his parents, Clifton Johnson and Ethel Johnson; his siblings, Dorothy Andrews, Judy Andrews and Larry Johnson; and his friend Esther Euten.

He is survived by: his children, David Short (Cindy), Melissa McBrayer (Bryson), Jamie Smith (Louis) and Kimberly McCorkle (Clyde); his brother Leonard Johnson (Julie); his sister-in-law Ethel Johnson; and his grandchildren, Dawson, Kaitlyn, Avery, Lily and Caden.
