He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Maria Mattei and Bernardo Mattei; his wife Celestine Mattei; his children, Michael Mattei of New York, Melissa Mattei of New Jersey, Miguel L. Mattei (Jenny) of North Carolina and Esteban Mattei of South Carolina; his stepchildren, Christopher Finklea of Virginia and Veronica Finklea of South Carolina; his siblings, Robert Velazquez (Aida), Tito Velazquez of South Carolina and Esther Cordts (Dennis) of South Carolina; his stepsister Hilda Velazquez (Angel) of South Carolina; his father-in-law Sylvester Finklea; and his siblings-in-law, Sylvester Finklea, Jr. (Evelyn) and Betty Watkins (Calvin) of Alabama. He was also cherished by 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
