He is survived by: his wife Earlene McDowell of Ladson, SC; his daughter Dr. Misty McDowell (Essam Namouz) of Greenville, SC; his siblings, Daniel J. McDowell (Sherrie) of Madison, AL, David L. McDowell (Nicole) of Horsehead, NY, Mavis M. Cooley (Phil) of Owosso, MI and Monica A. Topik (Alan) of Meridan, MS; and his grandchildren, Addison Namouz and Emerson Namouz.
