He was predeceased by: his father William David "Billy" Witherspoon. He is survived by: his wife Louise Atkinson Witherspoon; his children, Virginia McIntosh Witherspoon, Gillen Witherspoon Schecter (Aaron) and William David Witherspoon, III (Julia); his grandchildren, Louise Atkinson Merritt, Edward James Merritt, William David Witherspoon, IV and Adeline Rose Witherspoon; and his siblings, Hubert Craig Witherspoon (Fran), Linda Anne Witherspoon Adams (Dent), Robert Edward Atkinson, Jr. (Stephanie) and Ernest McIntosh Atkinson (Kelly). He is also survived by ten nieces and nephews and twelve great nieces and nephews.
