He was predeceased by: his parents, Ollie Steel Smith and Chloie Dewese Chinnes Smith; his stepchildren, Jerry, Donald Evans and Tammy Jones; and his siblings, Raleigh Hugh "Bubba" Smith, Betty Floyd and Sybil Vause.
He is survived by: his wife Myrtle Gause Powell Smith of Kingstree; his stepchildren, Ricky Powell of Florence, Randy Powell of Kingstree, Ronald Evans (Marian) of Manning, Angela Duke (David) of Gaston and Arnold Evans of Columbia; and his siblings, Jimmy Smith (Debbie) of Culpeper, Roy "Buddy" Smith (Margaret) of Pooler, GA, Dickie Smith (Johnnie) of Florence and Faye Osborne of Scranton.
