He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Victor Ward Sr. and Maenell Trapp Ward; his brother James Charles "Jimmy" Ward; and his granddaughter Victoria Lynn Pondish. He is survived by: his daughter Joanne W. Pondish (Jimmy) of Lugoff; his brother Thomas Andrew Ward (Sylvia); and his grandson James Robert "J. R.".

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
