He was predeceased by: his wife Dorothy Perdieu "Dot" Tatum; his parents, Elgie Paul Tatum and Gertie Griles Tatum; his son Dean Ray Tatum; and his brother-in-law Lee Johnson.

He is survived by: his daughter Deborah Douglas (Donald) of Bristow, VA; his grandsons, Adam Douglas (Robyn) of Rock Hill, SC, Ryan Douglas (Lauren) of Frederick, MD and Sly Tatum of Johnsonville; his daughter-in-law Debra C. Tatum; his sister Marian Johnson of Johnsonville; his nieces and nephews, Ann Edwards (Hal), Patsy Johnson, Joyce Stone (Steve), Brenda Nagy, Cheryl Owen, Yvonne, Linda Gough, Tammy Crutchfield, Clyde Robertson, Jr., Don Wilmoth, Brian Perdieu and Todd Perdieu; his siblings-in-law, Barbara "Sug" Wilmoth (Gus) and W. D. Perdieu; and his friends, Carmen Birchmore Richardson and Kendall Birchmore Jones.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice, In memory of Maynard Tatum.
