He was predeceased by: his mother Mary Carolyn Chandler Alford; and his brother James Edward Thaxton, Jr.. He is survived by: his father James Edward Thaxton, Sr.; his wife Tamra Nettles Thaxton; his son Kimball Curtis Thaxton (Stephanie); his siblings, Angela Fowler (Billy), Mary Dennis (Kenny) and Tony Thaxton; his grandchildren, Kimball Thaxton, Jr., Stormie Gayle Thaxton, Victoria Lynn Thaxton and Alexandra Grace Thaxton; and his goddaughter Tonya Melissa Burrows. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
