Roy Spain Jr. Obituary
81, of Johns Island, SC, entered into eternal rest Sunday, August 22, 2021. His. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, August 25, 2021, in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at 1:00 pm. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends in the chapel one hour prior the service, starting at 12:00 pm.
Masks and social distancing are required. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel. Roy was born April 20, 1940 in Atlanta, GA, son of the late Roy Spain, Sr. and the late Lucile H. Spain. He served for 6 years in the U.S. Navy and later retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He was also a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Johns Island where he served as a deacon and a leader in the children's ministry.
He was known by his family as "Captain Roy" because of his love for fishing and shrimping. He is survived by his sons, Roy "Tut" (Sheila) Spain, III of Summerville, SC, Rodney Allan (Cathie) Spain of Summerville, SC, and Troy D Spain of N. Charleston, SC; daughter, Karyn D Spain of Johns Island, SC; sisters, Ruth Harris of Homer, GA, and Martha Postell of Snellville, GA; brother, Forrest Spain of Johns Island, SC; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Kathleen "Kitty" Spain. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Johns Island 3483 Maybank Hwy., Johns Island, SC, 29455.
