He was predeceased by: his father John Edward Thompson; his nephew Murillo "Boochie" Thompson; and his niece Valerie Gandy. He is survived by: his mother Ruby G. Thompson; his wife Trudy; his children, Bruce Emanuel Thompson, Celleeta Gillard (Tony) and Fredrick Allen Thompson; his siblings, James Edward Thompson, Loretta Gandy (Harvey), Gloria Eargle (Leon), Ruby Hall (David), Phyllis Mills (Rodney), Angela Scipio and Janice Thompson; and his stepchildren, Tony Brown, Ikeetha Brown, Carmella Brown and Shakendra Harper. He is also survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, stepgrandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
