He was predeceased by: his parents, Frances McDowell (Christopher) and James D. McDowell; his sisters, Wilma Kate McDowell Barnette and Brenda Sue McDowell; and his sister-in-law Linda McDowell.
He is survived by: his siblings, James "Bud" McDowell (Margaret) of Inman, SC, Billy McDowell of Inman, SC, Terry McDowell (CeCe) of Inman, SC, Johnny McDowell of Spartanburg, Jerry McDowell (Linda) of Inman, SC, Mary Padgett Hall (Tom) of Boiling Springs, SC and Joyce McDowell Wright (Dick) of Spartanburg, SC. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
