He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Lee and Georgia Ballenger Burgess; and his brothers, Dennis Burgess and Bennett Burgess. He is survived by: his son Leroy Bernard Burgess Jr. of Baltimore, MD; and his siblings, Betty J. Alverson of Spartanburg, SC, Doris Burgess of Inman, SC, Cudrey Landrum of Inman, SC, Paul Burgess Jr. of Simpsonville, SC, Wade Burgess (Sandra) of Columbia, SC, Horace Scruggs (Mary) of Boiling Springs, SC and Keith Copeland of Inman, SC. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
