He was predeceased by: his parents, John Terrell Wilkins, Sr. and Belle Wilkins (Bennett); and his sisters, Meriel Woodward and Jane Bishop. He is survived by: his wife Doris Wilkins (Brown); his daughters, Jayne Wilkins Hammett (Ted) and Frances Wilkins; his grandsons, Dr. Bennett T. Hammett and John Phillip Gunter (Megan); his great grandchildren, Allison Jane, Caroline Paige Hammett, John Turnbull and Leo Wilkins Gunter; and his niece Julie Williams.
