He was predeceased by: his parents, William Gowan Clayton, Sr. and Jeanette King Clayton; his wife Doris Alverson Clayton; and his siblings, Willie Mae Clayton, Pearl Payne, Annie Clayton, William Gowan Clayton, Jr., John Ervin Clayton and Marvin Clayton.

He is survived by: his daughters, Rhonda Williams (Morris) and Kim Spakes (Mike); his sister Joyce Farmer; his grandsons, Justin Williams (Stephanie), Shane Williams (Mandy) and Clayton Spakes (Amanda); and his great grandchildren, Asher Matthews, Harleigh Belle Williams, Reagan Williams, Penelope Williams, Jackson Spakes, Waylon Spakes and Kirby Williams.

Memorials may be made to Interim Healthcare Hospice, 16 Hyland Road, Greenville, SC 29615.
