He was predeceased by: his parents, T. Bruce Smith and Mary Huggins Smith; his son Karl Miller Smith; his brother T. Bruce Smith; and his brothers-in-law, Phillip Odom and Dillard Jacobs.
He is survived by: his wife Jo Ann Smith (Sisty) of Hartsville, SC; his children, Jo Nelson (Scott), Courtney Geiger (Mike) of Hartsville, SC and Zach Smith of Hartsville, SC; his stepdaughters, Heather Ridgeway (Zeke) of Colfax, NC and Lori Curtin (Chase) of Austin, TX; his grandchildren, Leila Nelson, Eli Geiger, Peyton Ridgeway, Carson Ridgeway, Liam Curtin and Jameson Curtin; his sisters, Lynn Gainey (Howard), Sara Odom of Hartsville, SC and Argent Jacob of Spartanburg, SC; and his sister-in-law Dorothy Tedder Smith of Bishopville, SC. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
