He was predeceased by: his parents, John Wesley Dawsey Sr. and Agnes Felkle Dawsey; his siblings, Reggie Dawsey, Gloria McCracken and Jackie Neutroth; his grandchildren, Joellee Dawsey, Joshua Dawsey and Jessie Dawsey; and his great grandchild Zoe Mae Dawsey.

He is survived by: his wife Jacquelyn Harding Dawsey of Hanahan; his children, Kim David Dawsey (Kimberly) of North Charleston, Helen Dawsey Dixon (David) of Cross, Karen Dawsey Olinger of St. George and Rebecca Dawsey Hill (Tal) of Lebanon; his grandchildren, David Dixon Jr. (Tracy), Lori Eadie (Everett), Jamie Dawsey, Megan Ballentine (Phillip) of Dennis, Tal "Bubba" Hill (Kristina), Jake Dawsey, Rory Goode, Will Perry (Rachel) and Bryce Kinlaw; and his sisters, Laurel Shifflet of North Charleston and Amurelise Elsie of West Ashley.
