He was predeceased by: his parents, Hugh Hamilton Hoats and Gillie Davis Hoats; his son Joseph H. Hoats; his daughter-in-law Deborah Jenkins Hoats; and his siblings, Hugh Hoats, Louie G. Hoats and May Garvin.
He is survived by: his spouse Guelda Robinson Hoats; his children, Levy Irvin Hoats, Jr. of Hampton and Angela Hoats Gantt (Steve) of Ocoee, Florida; and his grandchildren, Michelle Jacobs, Amanda DeLoach, Darryl Hoats, Daniel Tyler Gantt, Stephanie Adkins, Trenton DeLoach, Brandon DeLoach, Kaylee DeLoach, Billy Koon, Kellin Adkins and Kyle Adkins.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to: Varnville First Baptist Church, Family Life Center, 165 East Palmetto Avenue, Varnville, South Carolina 29944.
