He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth "Betty" Mixon; his children, Robert Roy Mixon, Jr. (Jeanette) of Lexington, Wesley Lee Mixon (Sharon) of Elkin, Gail Marie Howell (Alan) of Greer and Gregory Lee Mixon of Landrum; his grandchildren, Brian Mixon (Lisa), Nicole Kirkman (Benny), Michael Mixon (Megan), Stephanie Mays (Clark), Julie Stanton (Seth), Travis Mixon (Misty) and Timothy Mixon (Casey); and his brother David Mixon of Arizonia. He is also survived by twelve great-grandchildren.
