He was predeceased by: his parents, Lyle Woodrow Byrd and Kathryn Tench Byrd; his wife Mary Elizabeth Spittle Byrd; his daughter Candy Teresa Byrd; and his siblings, Patsy Harris, Gayle B. Lingerfelt, Wilma Carolyn Byrd and Ross Byrd.
He is survived by: his close friend Pat LeRoy; his children, Emmit Byrd of Mobile, Tammy Wilson (Jimmy) of Travelers Rest and Lisa Lopez of Dacusville; his grandchildren, Crystal Ortega, Natasha Elkamand, Payton Harris, Hunter Lopez, Amanda Phan, Nathan Byrd, Gordon Byrd, Logan Wilson, Noah and Avery; his brothers, Jerry Byrd (Sylvia) and Richard Glenn Byrd; and his brother-in-law Marshall Harris.
Rex was a member of Trinity Presbyterian church in Travelers Rest, he attended East Pickens with Pat until Covid.
