He was predeceased by: his father Joel Cobb Thornton; and his grandson Christopher Shaun Collins. He is survived by: his mother Patricia Harvil Thornton; his wife Vonda Smallen Thornton; his sons, Chris Collins (Charity) of Loudon and Jason Collins (Michelle) of Greenville; his siblings, Jeff Thornton (Kathy) of San Anselmo, California, Stan Thornton (Tracy) of Greer, Stuart Thornton of Greer and Christy Helmrich of Greenville; his sister-in-law Marsha Varble (Wynn) of Hampshire, Tennessee; and his grandchildren, Blake Collins, Lauren Collins and Crey Collins. He is also survived by nephews and nieces.
