He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Fred Whitener, Sr. and Marcella Atkinson Hullehan; and his son-in-law Barry Mills. He is survived by: his wife Nancy Smith Whitener; his children, Mark L. Whitener (Ann) of Roebuck and Tracie E. Mills of Greer; his grandchildren, Josh Mills (Kristina), Jenna Perdue (Chris) and Teighlor Weber (Luke); and his great grandchildren, Kellen Perdue, Tucker Perdue, Riley Mills and Tillman Weber.

Memorials may be made to Apalache Baptist Church, 1915 Gap Creek Road, Greer, SC 29651.
