He was predeceased by: his parents, Leslie C. Whitelaw and Mary Edna Smart Whitelaw; and his siblings, Robert Whitelaw, Donald Whitelaw, Lorna Anderson and Claire Jantz. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
