He was predeceased by: his parents, August Nagel and Charlotte Nagel. He is survived by: his children, Cathy Painter (David), Laurie Plath (Mark) and Karl Nagel; his grandchildren, Brian Painter, Kristen Luck (Gibson), Michael Plath and Cheryl Douglas (Quart); his great grandchildren, Natalie Painter, Evie Painter, Eliza Luck, Janie Luck, Charley Douglas, Milo Douglas, Rowan Douglas and Iona Douglas; and his brother John Nagel (Nancy).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the United States Merchant Marine Academy at 300 Steamboat Rd. Kings Point, NY 11024.
