He was predeceased by: his father John W. Rutland, Sr.; and his brother Ricky Rutland. He is survived by: his sons, Vernon Rutland (Angela) of Greer, SC and Brandon Rutland (Allison) of Greer, SC; the mother of his children Ginger N. Rutland of Lexington, SC; his grandchildren, Emma Rutland of Greer, SC., Elliott Rutland of Greer, SC., Ensley Rutland of Greer, SC. and Asher Rutland of Greer, SC.; and his brothers, Charles Rutland (Peggy) of Clemson, SC, John W. Rutland, Jr. of Graniteville, SC, Daryl Rutland of Greenville, SC and Paul Rutland (Kim) of Richlands, Washington.. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Washington Baptist Church, 3500 N. SC 14, Greer, SC 29651, or Oakwood Baptist Church, 3520 Mineral Springs Road, Lexington, SC 29073.
