He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold E. Nelson and Stella Hoover Nelson; his daughter Maria Nelson; and his siblings, Robert, Jim, Richard, Gary Nelson and Donna Winch.
He is survived by: his children, Eileen N. Chapman of Abbeville, Barbara Shea of Edisto Island, Sherry N. Fortson of Edisto Island, Caroline Burton (Jimmy) of Greenwood and Sonny Nelson (Becki) of Taylorsville, NC; his siblings, David Nelson (Flaviana) of Georgia and Gayle Prusynski of Wisconsin; and his grandchildren, Julie, John Charles, Dori, Sara, Christopher, Matthew and Andrew. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.
